Outboard-motor manufacturer Evinrude announced today that it is now a part of the newly established BRP Marine Group with the acquisition of Alumacraft, a manufacturer of aluminum fishing boats
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Tracy Crocker, senior vice president and general manager of Evinrude since 2017, has been appointed president of the group. He will be responsible for the strategic direction and operations of the BRP Marine Group while maintaining his role at Evinrude.
Evinrude, which developed the first commercially viable outboard in 1909, will join Alumacraft, a 70-plus-year-old manufacturer of aluminum fishing boats. The two will experience no changes in day-to-day operations and will remain independent companies within the BRP Marine Group.
When Outboard Marine Corporation owned Evinrude, the company also had several boat companies under its corporate umbrella. Now under the BRP Marine Group, Evinrude will be the sole supplier of motors to Alumacraft and subsequent manufacturers that the new entity acquires in the future.
Evinrude is the only manufacturer of two-stroke outboards in the marine industry and its E-TEC G2 series of motors has gained popularity and marketshare over the past few years. The G2 lineup ranges from 150 to 300 hp in standard and HO models. The motors are popular for fishing, pontoon, runabout and deckboat applications.
