RavenRib Sets new Rigid Hull Inflatable Speed Record

Norwegian rigid hull inflatable manufacturer RavenRib set a new world speed record for both the RIB Open class in November at 117.06 mph and Group B Sports S1 Class during Powerboat Record Week on Coniston Water in the United Kingdom last November.

The 29-foot Raven Race Rib was powered by twin Mercury Racing Verado 400R outboards. It has a two-person enclosed cockpit. Jan Jorgenson was joined during the record run by co-driver Peter Mastrup.

Their speed records were among many set during a week of great weather. The youngest competitor was 17-year-old Thomas Mantripp from Lowestoft, England, who entered three classes and established a world and national speed record in the 0175 Hydroplane class at 89 mph. The fastest speed of 124.38 mph was laid down by Ben Jelf, who set a British National record in the Supercat class.

Edd China also took to the water in a Gibbs Amphibious Equada, an electrically powered amphibicar that established a new record at 28.7 mph.
