Our Chevy Suburban sees a lot of action and when it came time for the old tires to retire, the excuse opportunity also presented itself for new Weld Racing wheels, Atturo Tires Trail Boss tires, and a TPMS, courtesy of Tucker Tire here in SoCal.

Here’s how it all went down.

Weld Racing provided us with their cool Ledge Six W107 to bring much-needed style to our Suburban.

Featuring spokes finished in satin gunmetal with a contrasting satin black simulated beadlock ring around the lip, the Ledge Six W107 took what made the original five spoke, five lug Weld Off-Road Ledge Wheel for Jeeps and cranked it up a notch. This new six spoke, six lug version comes in 17-, 18-, and 20-inch diameters. It’s also available in fitments for popular truck applications like the Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150, and Dodge Ram 1500. Moreover, the wheel’s simulated beadlock ring provides an off-road look without sacrificing street legality. That’s perfect for us because this Suburban works hard on and off-road.

But first Tucker Tire had to remove the old wheel and tire combination. One good thing about the new Ledge Six W107 is that its rotary-formed construction results in increased strength and reduced weight for performance both on and off-road.

Now comes the hard work. Here, Tucker Tire shoehorns the Weld wheel into our new tire: an Atturo Trail Blade X/T multi-terrain tire. It takes its style from a company collaboration with Quartermaster Knives. It offers the open shoulder and sidewall tread lugs of a mud terrain, combined with the off-road ability of an all-terrain and the road feel of a highway tire, in keeping with the uses to which we put our SUV.

After securing the wheel inside the new tire, it was time for installation.

Once it the tire was aired up and in place, all six lugs were bolted into place to hold the combination safely and securely to the Suburban.

But we weren’t quite done just yet. Before we could drive off into the sunset and the adventures that awaited, Tucker Tire also installed a TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system). Tires operating below inflation standards put the overall performance of your vehicle and the safety of your passengers at risk. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System helps increase your safety on the road by improving your vehicle’s maneuverability, decreasing the tread wear of your tires, reducing your vehicle’s braking distance, and improving your vehicle’s fuel economy. There are two types of Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems in existence today—Direct and Indirect. A Direct Tire Pressure Monitoring System uses sensors on the inside tire assembly to transmit tire pressure information to your vehicle’s computer. An Indirect Tire Pressure Monitoring System gauges tire pressure through your vehicle’s Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) by using speed sensors to measure the rotational speed of each wheel (as tire pressure decreases, the rolling distance decreases, and the rotational speed increases). All TPMS systems require regular maintenance in order to meet maximum performance standards, which requires all vehicles to be equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
